Merging and Renaming Clients

Why this piece is featured

Documents a real data-integrity operation with genuine consequences — parent/child rollup, temporary record locking mid-merge — and its own safe reversal path via unlinking.

Merging clients in Lifecycle Manager lets you combine multiple client records into a single record. When you merge clients, the assets, reports, and account data from the merged records roll up under a single parent client.

This is useful when the same client appears under different names across your integrations, when an integration creates duplicate records, or when you want to consolidate related clients into a single view. This article covers how to merge, rename, and unlink clients.

Note

Merging a client doesn't delete the linked record. The linked client becomes a child of the parent, and its data is combined with the parent's. You can unlink it at any time to restore it.

Merging clients

There are two places to merge clients: Merge Clients on an individual client's settings page (for working with one client at a time), and Client Settings under Account Settings (for working across your whole account). Both produce the same result.

Merging from a client's Merge Clients page

  1. Click Home to view the Clients List, and select the client you want to use as the parent.
  2. On the client's profile page, click Settings, then Merge Clients in the left navigation panel.
  3. In the Merge clients section, search for the client you want to link, and click its name. Repeat to merge multiple clients.
  4. Click Merge Selected, then Apply to confirm.

Merging from Client Settings

  1. Hover over the settings icon and click Account Settings, then Client Settings.
  2. Find the client you want to use as the parent, click its context menu icon, and click Merge another Client.
  3. Search for the client you want to link — the integration each client syncs from is shown next to its name to help you identify the correct record.
  4. Click the client's name, then Merge Selected, then review and click Apply.

Merged clients are temporarily locked while the merge is being processed. Wait for the operation to finish before making further changes to the parent or child clients.

Renaming a client

  1. Click Home to view the Clients List, and select the client you want to rename.
  2. On the client's profile, click Settings, then Merge Clients.
  3. Enter a new name, or select an existing name from the list, then click Use Name (this appears after the existing name has been edited).
  4. Review and click Apply to confirm.

Viewing merged child clients

Child clients are hidden by default in the Client Settings list. To see them, go to Account Settings > Client Settings and turn on the Show child clients filter. Child clients appear inline beneath their parent — this includes clients linked automatically when an integration first imported them, as well as clients you've linked manually.

Note

If a known client isn't available to merge, check whether your Lifecycle Manager user account has access to view that client. See Managing user access with Client Groups.

Unlinking clients

Unlinking removes a child client's relationship with its parent. The child record isn't deleted, and after unlinking, it's restored to a standalone client.

From Client Settings (for clients linked automatically by an integration, or any child client in the account-wide list): turn on Show child clients, find the child client, and click its Unlink button, then review and click Apply.

From a client's Name & Links page (when you're already working with a specific parent client): go to Settings > Merge Clients, click the Unlink icon next to the client you want to unlink, and click Apply to confirm.

Unlinking is processed in the background. The affected clients are temporarily locked until the operation completes.
